Important — please read before you travel

    Verify access before travel

Contact the operator (NTS, Forestry & Land Scotland, RSPB, the local council, or estate office) to confirm current access, opening hours, parking and toilet availability. If you need a Tramper, book it well in advance — they're popular and limited.

    Conditions change

Even sealed paths can become impassable after heavy rain, snow or ice. Surfaces, gates and facilities are maintained by third parties and can change without notice. Many Highland and island routes have patchy phone signal.

    Consider going accompanied

We strongly suggest walking with a companion wherever possible. Even on the most accessible routes a helper makes everything safer — especially in remote areas where phone signal is unreliable and help can be a long way off.

    Accessibility is personal

What suits one wheelchair user, scooter user or person with walking aids may not suit another. The information here is a starting point for planning, not a guarantee. Only you can decide if a route is right for you.
